David Moss, an innovative percussionist/vocalist, improviser and provocateur, makes music that ranges from extreme to experimental to 21st century, including compositions, songs and tough jazz-rock hybrids. There’s a clear record of experimental achievement and an openness to sonic variety in all his work. He is... ...a solo performer/composer (Terrain, My Favorite Things, Vox Paradiso), ...a band-member and collaborator (Golden Palominos, Dense Band w/ Fred Frith & Arto Lindsay, Heiner Goebbels, Denseland, etc.), ...a one-man theater (Einstein for Aliens, The Table of Earth), ...an opera singer/maker (Survival Songs, Lost Highway, etc.), ...an originator of “live loop singing” (see his upcoming LoopCities releases), ...a curator and teacher (Institute for Living Voice, MADE Festival Umeå, Music Academy Venice Biennale), ...the only vocalist who sings the music of Luciano Berio, Carla Bley, Iannis Xenakis, Christian Marclay, Olga Neuwirth, Prince, Johann Strauss, J.S. Bach, Frank Zappa and John Coltrane. He performed with Berlin Philharmonic/Sir Simon Rattle, Arditti String Quartet, Ensemble Modern, Ensemble Intercontemporain, and many other classical ensembles and orchestras. He has performed more than 5000 concerts at hundreds of venues around the world. He has received a Guggenheim Fellowship, the DAAD Artist-in-Berlin grant, and the German Music Author’s Prize by GEMA for Experimental Voice. He was born in New York City and lives in Berlin. www.davidmossmusic.com
