Études Mélodiques

Biography

Armenian composer and pianist Marie Awadis, born in Lebanon and now based in Germany, is renowned for her intimate, elegantly crafted music. Her compositions, focused on the piano, convey genuine human emotion, drawing from diverse influences—from classical traditions to Armenian folk motives. Awadis's debut piece 'Alone' with Deutsche Grammophon in 2021 marked the beginning of her journey. Now her debut album, "Études Mélodiques," inspired by Chopin and minimalism, releases in September 2024. Escaping the Armenian genocide, Awadis's family history deeply influences her art. Raised in Lebanon amid civil war, she explored various genres besides the classical, including jazz and world music. Rediscovering her passion for composing during the last years, she connected more deeply to her Armenian, Lebanese, and German cultural experiences. Transitioning from performing to composing, Awadis's career flourished with solo piano, cello, string quartet compositions, and choral works. Her previous albums include "Echoes" (2015), "Searching" (2017), and "Una Corda Diaries" (2020), along with the EP "LUYS," released in November 2023. Through her music, Awadis combines her intuitive approach with the rhythmic precision of American minimalism and the spirituality of European minimalism, reflecting her unique Armenian-Lebanese-German heritage.
