Biography

The music of Swiss composer Fortunat Frölich leads the listener through a wide variety of musical styles and also into foreign musical cultures. His work often contains a confrontation of opposites, as in the concerto for improvising free jazz saxophone and orchestra "Letter to Art Pepper" or in his intercultural compositions. Fortunat Frölich was commissioned by the Federal Department of Culture to write the music for the official anniversary celebration "150 Years of the Swiss Confederation", which was premiered on the Bundesplatz in Bern in 1998. The chamber opera "black tell" was premiered at the Swiss National Exhibition (Expo02). Other works have been commissioned by the Swiss Arts Council Pro Helvetia, the Basel Symphony Orchestra, the Orchestra Filarmonica di Torino, the Basel Theater, the Biel/Solothurn Opera, the Lucerne Theater, the MAWAZINE Festival in Marocco , the Boswiler Sommer Festival, the Stimmen Festival Lörrach, the Menhir Festival Falera and many others. One of Frölich's particular interests is interculturality. He has led many intercultural projects in Africa and Asia.
