Born and raised in Thunder Bay, Ontario, on September 13th, 2002, Canadian-Ghanaian rapper Kofi AK was born with a guitar in his hand. Originally, he had specialized in blues music, mainly playing the guitar, along with playing alto saxophone and singing. While attending St. Patrick High School in Thunder Bay, he started the local youth blues-rock group “The Shortstops”; they had moderate success and played quite a few local shows. However, the group was not able to perform after March 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, so the group broke up. Kofi later focused more on the production side of music, working multiple hours a day on beats, along with rapping. In October, he was accepted to the Music Production program at Centennial College in Toronto, Ontario. After the tough year that was 2020, Kofi wanted to brighten peoples’ moods, so on January 7, 2021, he released his first single “Debut Shit”.
