Biography

Danilo Squitieri studied cello with Ilie Ionescu, Radu Aldulescu, Michele Chiapperino, Francesco Strano, Luigi Piovano, Rocco Filippini, Thomas Demenga, Antonio Meneses, Enrico Bronzi and Enrico Dindo. He graduated with 10/10 and honors from the Conservatorio of Campobasso and with 10/10 from the Academy of Santa Cecilia. He studied at the Stauffer Academy in Cremona, the Trio di Trieste Trio Academy in Duino, the hochschule der Stadt Basel and the Chigiana Academy in Siena. He won many awards including the 3rd prize at the 2010 Gui Competition in duo with Enzo Oliva, first price at Città di Barletta Competition, at “I Giovani per i Giovani” competition in Ravenna, at “Cidac Competition” in Scafati, at International competition “Bernardo Santaniello”, at “Jacopo Napoli” competition held in Cava de’ Tirreni, at “Scuola concert 2001” competition, at “Città di Magliano Sabina” competition 2004. He was first cello of the "Archi di Santa Cecilia". He was part of the Adorno quartet, winning the “2. Wiener Schule Preis” awarded by the University of Vienna, in 2017 the 3rd prize, the special prize and the public prize at the Borciani Competition, in 2018 the Rimbotti Competition and in 2019 “una vita per la musica” prize. He has collaborated with pianists such as Louis Lortie and Giorgia Tomassi. He has recorded for Decca Italia, Sony Classical, Fuga Libera, Philips Collection and Stradivarius. He plays a F. Guadagnini granted by Ilie Ionescu
