A singer, actress, and television presenter, Hungary's Szulák Andrea has been known for many things and events in her long career, including a losing bid at the 1993 Eurovision Song Contest. Born February 8, 1964, in Budapest, Szulák made her first appearance on-stage at the ripe age of four, as part of a performance of Porgy & Bess in Budapest. By 1980 she was making her first appearances on film, and during that decade was a member of the rock band Csacska Macska Vokál (Crazy Cat Choir). She would go on -- in 1990 -- to join the group Neoton Familia, but would only stick around for one album appearance (A Trónörökös) before moving on to her solo career. That particular aspect of her work -- that is to say, pop music solo artist -- got moving in 1993 with the release of her first solo album, Nem Harap a Néni (The Lady Won't Bite) and her appearance at that year's Eurovision Song Contest. Although she didn't with the Eurovision prize for her nation, Szulák wasn't swayed from reaching for more, and in 1994 she released album number two, Pieces of My Heart (translated from Hungarian), which was followed in 1995 by a dramatic television role that lasted two years. In the meantime, Szulák released album number three, 1996's IQ -- Te Vagy, Aki Nekem Jár (IQ -- You Belong to Me) and served as a presenter on the Top TV television show and on Calypso Radio. In 1998 she issued a duet full-length release with Péter Benkl and made a number of stage appearances, including the title role in a production of Hello, Dolly! In 2000 Szulák released album number four, Szerelemez (The Love Album), and in 2001 had enough successful material to warrant a best-of compilation, Best of Andrea Szulák. More roles in television and film -- as well as stage roles -- followed, and in 2006 Szulák released the album Cinema, a collection of songs from film. Her 2007 release, Boldogság, Gyere Haza, was another hit for Szulák, reaching number ten on the Hungarian album charts. ~ Chris True, Rovi
