a.k.a. Simeon Soden. Musically, ako infuses influences from vaporwave with experimental dance music. Ako is an audio-visual experience and I create experimental music videos to accompany my musical works and performances, employing creative coding, modified games consoles, VHS manipulation, analogue video equipment and CGI. A common thread in my work is repurposing obsolete audio and video recording / production equipment / abandonware as rebellion against planned obsolescence and hyper-consumerism. I have released music internationally on record labels in various formats (including cassette, VHS, CD and digital) on Halcyon Tapes (USA), The Tidal Charm (Netherlands), Sunset grid (Australia), Virtual Soundsystem (Mexico), HOT-Q, SPRIX (USA), N-aut, Nothing but.. and Kaneda Records. My music has been broadcast on BBC6 Music, selected for Spotify’s official editorial playlists and Tom Robinson’s 'Fresh on the Net' as well being featured on BandCamp Daily. In 2021 I was commissioned to produce a remix for popular New Zealand based artist ‘Eyeliner’ (aka Luke Rowell / Disasteradio) as part of a project and new collection by New Zealand National library I also work in collaborative project Badger, which recently toured the Netherlands and the UK. A track from our newest Badger EP was also remixed by the Andrew Fearn of the acclaimed Sleaford Mods. I co-founded Kaneda Records (record label) and Northern Electric Festival (music festival) and founded Linebreak Records.
