David Costa was born in Lisbon and maintains a strong career both as a performer (orchestra and chamber music player) and as an oboe teacher (currently at AEVialonga and Metropolitan Professional School). David plays regularly with Lisbon Sinfonietta Orchestra – he recorded several CD, including being soloist at the soundtrack for the motion picture “Amor de Perdição” – and the Portuguese Chamber Orchestra – which obtained 4 stars in The Times review at 2008 City of London Festival opening concert. Throughout the years, David has played with several orchestras such as Filarmonia das Beiras Orchestra, Gulbenkian Orchestras, a Lisbon Metropolitan Orchestra, and worked with maestros like Christopher Bochmann, Vasco Pearce de Azevedo, Paavo Järvi, Günther Herbig, Gustavo Dudamel and Pedro Carneiro. In chamber music he plays in several ensembles. Since 2003, David plays regularly with the pianist Pedro Ferro. In 2021 they recorded “Cântico negro - Oboe e piano em português” (9 Musas for MPMP), exclusively with music by Portuguese contemporaneous composers. He began his musical studies at the age of 5 and studied at Lisbon Nacional Conservatoire and later at Lisbon Music Superior School (performance degree and Master in teaching). He has participated in masterclasses with Hänsjorg Schellenberger, Ernest Rombout, Christian Wetzel, Washington Barella e Omar Zoboli, among others. David plays with a “Légende” oboe and is a Buffet Crampon artist for Portugal.
