Sonata for Bassoon and Piano, Op. 71: ...

Biography

Valeria Curti is lecturer for bassoon at the Bern University of the Arts and principal bassoon of the Swiss orchestra Musikkollegium Winterthur She sees herself as an artist whose central concern is to use her instruments and her interpretation to present the music of each era in a lively and communicative way. She does not foreground technical brilliance, but uses it to sensitively explore and express colours, rhythms and dynamics. Parallel to her modern bassoon, she also plays an original late romantic Heckel bassoon from 1893 and a baroque bassoon in historical performance practice. In addition to her activities as a soloist, orchestral and chamber musician, Valeria Curti is also active as a researcher of unknown bassoon literature, which she finds in archives and performs. Curtis musical activity has been honored by the prestigious Göhner Music Prize (2021) and the 1st prize at the IDRS Young Artist Competition 2015 in Tokyo. She has also received grants from various foundations, such as the Rahn Kulturfonds (2020), the Migros Kulturprozent (2017), the Ruth and Ernst Burkhalter Foundation and the Friedl Wald Foundation (2013), enabling her to search archives for forgotten bassoon music. Valeria Curti also devotes her time and exercises a great commitment to chamber music. Chamber music concerts have taken her to Japan, France, Italy and Austria. She currently performs regularly with the Trio Lusinea, in the extraordinary formation of flute, bassoon and harp.
