Biography

Quinlan Kirchner is a drummer, composer, improvisor & DJ from Chicago, IL. At age 18, he attended University of New Orleans to study with Ellis Marsalis, Ricky Sebastian, Johnny Vidacovich, Jason Marsalis & Harold Battiste, earning a B.A. in Jazz Studies and the Frederico Senior of the Year Award. He also began recording and performing with QMRplus, Red Shift, The Other Planets, Adam Croche, Jeff Albert, Irene Sage & Ed Petersen. After Hurricane Katrina, Quin went to New York for Masters studies at the Manhattan School of Music under John Riley before relocating to Chicago.In the 15 years since returning to Chicago, Kirchner has become a ubiquitous force in the city's diverse music scene. He's led groups incl. Broste/Beach/Kirchner, Head with Wings, Ear to the Ground, Golombisky/Kirchner Duo, Lost Levels, Kirchner/Van Duerm/Lux and The Quin Kirchner Trio, Quartet, Ensemble & Group. In 2018 he released his debut album The Other Side of Time, receiving rave reviews from Chicago Reader, Downbeat, NPR, All About Jazz & WIRE. Quin is also an active sideman, performing, touring and recording with Ryley Walker, Rob Mazurek, Jeb Bishop, Jeff Parker, Greg Ward, Dave Rempis, Mars Williams, Keefe Jackson, Jason Stein & groups including Greg Ward's Fitted Shards & Rogue Parade, Nate Lepine Quartet, Nick Mazzarella Quintet, Tim Stine Quartet, Dave McDonnell Group, Matt Ulery's Delicate Charms, Paul Giallorenzo's GitGo, In Tall Buildings, NOMO, Wild Belle and The Lucky 7s, among others.
