Biography

A multifaceted artist, Istanbul-born Sahan Arzruni is a composer, ethnomusicologist, recording artist, and writer, as well as a recitalist and concert pianist. As a teenager, he wrote a book about the music of his native land; throughout his career, he has drawn from and researched the musical history of his Armenian roots. Along with recording albums such as Visionary Landscapes, Arzruni also recorded an anthology of Armenian piano music. He has also been featured in command performances at the White House and at the British, Danish, and Swedish courts, and hosted a program about the theories behind piano playing on New York's Municipal Broadcasting System for five years. Arzruni writes academic articles for the Armenian Museum of Natural History, The New Grove Dictionary of Music, and the Dictionary of the Middle Ages as part of his diverse career. ~ Heather Phares, Rovi
