Biography

Third Coast Percussion is a Grammy Award-winning, artist-run quartet of classically-trained percussionists hailing from the great city of Chicago. For 15 years, the ensemble has forged a unique path in the musical landscape with virtuosic, energetic performances that celebrate the extraordinary depth and breadth of musical possibilities in the world of percussion. Third Coast Percussion’s recordings include 13 feature albums, and appearances on eleven other releases. The quartet has put its stamp on iconic works by Philip Glass, John Cage and Steve Reich, and Third Coast has also created first recordings of new works commissioned by the ensemble, in addition to recordings of the ensemble’s own compositions. In 2017 the ensemble won the GRAMMY Award for Best Chamber Music/Small Ensemble performance for their recording of Steve Reich’s works for percussion, in 2019 the ensemble was nominated for its 2nd GRAMMY Award for their album Perpetulum, and in 2020 they were nominated for their album Fields, featuring music and performances by Devonté Hynes AKA Blood Orange. Third Coast Percussion maintains a busy touring schedule both in the U.S. and abroad, and an active online presence through live streaming events and other media under their brand digital_TCP. Recent commissions and collaborations include Philip Glass, Danny Elfman, Devonté Hynes AKA Blood Orange, Jlin, Tyondai Braxton, Flutronix, Missy Mazzoli, Ryan Lott AKA Son Lux and Glenn Kotche of Wilco.
