I describe myself as "an industrial kid who grew up to admit a love for melodic mantras". +++ These days I'm increasingly fascinated by trying to find a working mixture of strange electronics and harsh noise with classic "easy listening" tunes and harmonies. +++ I'm influenced by everything from 60s jazz and lounge music, 70s "prog" synth artists and folk-rock, 80s electro-pop and post-punk, 90s hip-hop and IDM, and on through to contemporary sounds. I still think of myself as an "experimental" musician. But increasingly, what I'm experimenting with is traditional music theory. While still trying not to lose that sense of exploration and making it up as I go along. +++ Note : Spotify is bloody confusing for navigating a catalogue of music. A lot of my music comes from specific periods of / or identities of experimentation. So the music out as Mentufacturer is my main project these days. And is quite varied. Albums are more polished than "mixtapes". (which can contain cruder experiments). Singles tend to be one off collaborations or EPs with a particular theme. +++ The stuff that's under the name Synaesmedia with white borders top and bottom, and which sounds kind of New Agey, is all improvisations using a program called Gbloink! Stuff called OvniLounge is my "lounge music for flying saucer people", and I allow it to be self-consciously more "wrong" (a misreading of lounge music by extra-terrestrials), than Mentufacturer (who tries to be "right", even if it fails).
