"I set fires with my music. I don't know if that's a good thing or a bad thing, but I guess it's something." Fly Montag is the current incarnation of Sumedh Garimella's long musical journey. Born in Chicago and based in the Atlanta area, he takes inspiration from Dutch house, the trap scene around him, his Indian roots, and his everyday life in order to create thumping but thought-provoking music. After playing piano for 8 years and double bass for 4 of those years, Sumedh fell in love with EDM and decided that he wanted in. He started producing very crude beats on bus rides home from school, and went through 4 short-lived producer names as he struggled to discover his sound. Finally, as he sat in his dorm room at Georgia Tech, Sumedh connected with the evolution of Guy Montag from a heartless fireman into a hero who stood up to a brutal conformist regime in Fahrenheit 451, and thus Fly Montag, who represents fiery hype and raw emotional passion, was born. After completing his first album, Kerosene Lamp, and opening for Blackbear in front of a crowd of 2000 people in 2021, he's taking a new, more holistic step in his journey, as he starts to add his own voice to his upcoming 2nd album (coming late 2023). Building off of his goofy Dutch lyrics on 'Nederlands' and his emotionally-charged Hindi/Urdu words on 'Achhe Se', he's working on music in English, French, and various Indian languages for his upcoming projects.
