Biography

Black Lavender grew up idolizing the timeless talents in his father’s record collection. His childhood home was once the recording studio of the legendary Philadelphia soul band The Stylistics, leaving an undeniable mark on his musical journey. In 2012, shortly after finishing university, Black Lavender moved to Europe to continue his artistic adventure. Living in Madrid transformed Black Lavender from a rapper into a musician. Immersing himself in the city’s underground urban jam scene, he formed his zero-fucks band, The Othahood. Black Lavender and The Othahood’s live performances rapidly shift from hip-hop to alternative soul, with influences ranging from Outkast to Childish Gambino. Whether performing with a DJ, a guitar, or his high-energy band, his audience always leaves craving more. He has played sold-out shows in many of Madrid’s most prominent venues and rocked out at festivals such as Madrid Es Negro, San Isidro, and DCODE. As a recording artist, Black Lavender has topped Spotify playlists like Mellow Bars and Fresh Finds, released his debut EP ‘Everybody Eats,’ and featured in international commercial campaigns for major brands like Jameson, Santander, and Pepe Jeans. In 2022, Black Lavender moved to Porto, Portugal, to work on a duo project with producer FOQUE. This collaboration marks a new chapter in his creative journey, pushing the boundaries of his music and bringing a fresh and unpredictable sound to his work.
