The composer and multiinstrumentalist Malik Diao was born in Ingolstadt in 1999. While studying Musicology, Composition, Jazz, Philosophy, New German Literature and Art History, he started developing musical concepts for theatre works and light- and room installations, the latter being shown in spaces like the Dortmunder U and the Kasematten at Lichtstrom Festival. While his focus lies on composing for theatre, Malik Diao is also an active jazz musician, working with formations like the Lighthouse Trio, his Quintett Approach // Edit and as a touring musician for the Lukas Lindner Group, produces music in the duos Rosvita Radikal and Malik Diao X Fred Red and performs and creates digital art through Creative Coding. For his work, Malik Diao was awarded a scholarship by the "Gunther und Waltraut Greffenius Stiftung" and was the recipient of the "Jazzförderpreis der Stadt Ingolstadt 2020". Frequent collaborators include Annette Müller, Pablo Pereira, Cathy Cyfka, Maura and Fred Red. Since signing to Brighton based label Village Live Records in 2022, Fred Red and Malik Diao released their first joint EP Parabellum (featured in Bandcamp's "New and Notable" section) and their debut album Monologue.
