Biography

Bio Janne Schra ('81) is an artist from Amsterdam, known for her work as a singer, songwriter, and painter. She initially gained attention as the lead singer and songwriter of Room Eleven, a band with gold and platinum albums: "Six White Russians & a Pink Pussycat" (2006) and "Mmm...Gumbo?" (2008). The band toured internationally, from Tokyo to Montréal and Johannesburg. Since 2010, Schra has released five solo albums: "India Lima Oscar Victor Echo You" (2010), "Janne Schra" (2013), "PONZO" (2015), "OK" (2018), and "The Heart Is Asymmetrical" (2023). She also explored singing in Dutch on "VASALIS," an album with The Noordpool Orchestra based on poems by Dutch poet M. Vasalis, and the Dutch jazz album "In De Regen" with her band De Vogels, for which she won an Edison Jazz Award in 2022. Throughout her career, Schra has collaborated with artists including M. Ward, Benny Sings, Kraak & Smaak, Benjamin Herman, The Ramblers, Sister Bliss, Dayna Kurtz, and De Staat, as well as orchestras such as Metropole and Residentie. She has recorded at Capitol Studios (LA), Kaleidoscope (NY), and with Johan Lindström and Tobias Fröberg (Ane Brun) in Stockholm. Right now, Schra is working on a new album with guitarist Laurens Radstake in Paris. They are recording with producer and musician Albin de la Simone (Vanessa Paradis, Pomme) at Studio 237 with drummer Raphaël Chassin (Nouvelle Vague).
