Composer and songwriter, based in Melbourne. I love creating music, songs and sound design. My main inspiration is jazz, especially artists like Robert Glasper, Miles Davis, Diana Krall, Emma Gilmartin, Joe Chindamo, and Herbie Hancock. I am committed to learning and going deeper into my music. Meditation is something I do every day, and it keeps me grounded and in "beginner's mind". The creative process is a sacred, humbling and challenging space, but there is no escaping the creative impulse. It can make me dive in to a memory of a real event, or imagine myself actually living through the stories of the characters in my songs. When people say “ I feel a song coming on” - that isn’t just a cliche. It is actually a very strong emotional and visceral response to an event, thought, image, feeling or word, and is what drives my compositional process. This impulse lives in the body and imagination, sometimes churning around for days, weeks, months, until it is given concrete form in the shape of words with music, or a piece of instrumental music. Often, it can take over my life. I can’t write more than one piece at a time, as I need to give them my absolute undivided attention, whether it’s finding the right word, note, or chord. I hope that my music and songs can touch people's hearts and minds. What I would like from my audience is to look deeper at the story behind the song.
