Equals are east-London duo James Low and Ade Omotayo with a supporting cast of London's finest musicians and vocalists. They combine James’s forward-thinking songwriting and arrangement with Ade’s emotive and powerful vocals. Ade earned his stripes as a backing singer for Amy Winehouse, with whom he sung throughout her entire career. He has since featured on records by Kindness, Matthew Herbert, Mark Ronson and Quincy Jones and recently toured the world with Gorillaz. James took the more conventional route, grafting with bands, including members of Submotion Orchestra, who remain friends and collaborators. Across three EP releases and one LP, 2018's highly acclaimed '1997', Equals have built a loyal fanbase through support from Fader, XLR8R, Line Of Best Fit, NPR, Mobo, Complex, Indie Shuffle, Hilly Dilly, Arts Desk, Bonafide and CLASH Magazine, while hitting airwaves with wireless support from 1Xtra’s Jamz Supernova, Capital Xtra and BBC 6Music’s Shaun Keaveny, Lauren Laverne & Craig Charles. Live performances have included everything from Sofar sessions in abandoned churches to Croatian beaches and Dalston basements to Koko, the V&A, the Royal Albert Hall and many more. 2018 will see them touring the LP, including a 15 date European tour with Alex Clare in November.
