Biography

A corpus of compositions that included 40 symphonies, concertos, concertinos, chamber pieces -- trios, divertimenti, variations -- vocal songs and sacred works, as well as numerous keyboard sonatas demonstrates the range of this composer, pianist and teacher. Dusek studied with Habermann in Prague and Wagensiel in Vienna. He was a successful teacher and composer with connections in the orchestras of Count Pachta and Count Clam-Gallas. Many musicians visited his home and Mozart completed "Don Giovanni" and probably "La clemenza di Tito" there. During 1761 and 1796 the majority of his musci was composed. His styles ranged from the galant to the High Classical with hints of the Baroque. Many of his works are reminiscent of Wagenseil and occasionally employ the use of Czech idiosyncrisies. ~ Keith Johnson, Rovi
