Biography

Carla Reyna, better known as Niña Dioz, has grown accustomed to breaking barriers for more than a decade into Mexico’s predominantly male hip-hop scene as an openly queer rapper. Now based between Los Angeles and Mexico City, she continues to create meaningful songs that reflect her identity, reality, vision and voice. The first single off of her album Reyna, released by LA’s label Nacional Records: “Tambalea”, featuring Ceci Bastida and Lido Pimienta received millions of streams and became NPR’s Best Alternative Songs of 2019. It was also named by Germany’s Cosmo Radio “Top Song of the Year.” Niña Dioz has become one of the most exciting artists of the Latin-Urban scene in Mexico, collaborating and sharing stages with international artists such as Lido Pimienta, M.I.A, Plastilina Mosh, Bomba Estéreo, Anderson Pak, Shigeto, Rebeca Lane etc... Her music has been featured in a large number of movies, TV shows and commercials, such as: “Primero”, part of the official soundtrack of FIFA’s 21 video game; as well as HBO's "Insecure", Netflix’s “Ozark”, Netflix's "The Unforgivable" (with Sandra Bullock), Netflix’s “On My Block”, to name a few examples. Her most recent single, "Mezcal," which has charted more than 2 million of streams, is a powerful collaboration between two of the most important femcees from Mexico, Niña Dioz and Hispana. Niña Dioz says: "For me the Mezcal represents the Mexican woman, powerful and full of fire”.
