Biography

Christopher Lawrence is a progressive trance and psytrance DJ who rose to the top of his field and helmed several mix albums as well as producing his own work and remixing others. Active since the late '90s, he gradually earned a wide range of awards and acknowledgments, and was regularly recognized as one of the leading trance jocks throughout the first half of the 2010s. In 2013, DJ Mag listed Lawrence -- an attraction at clubs and festivals alike -- as the 40th best all-time DJ. Before he'd been DJing for more than a few years, Lawrence released the 1997 mix album Rise on the Fragrant label. One year later, he signed a production contract with the respected Scottish label Hook Recordings, and watched as "Navigator" and "Shredder" became proper British club hits, extending his name and résumé across the globe. In 1999, he released two more mix albums, Temptation (for City of Angels) and the label retrospective Hook Recordings. Signed to the American mix label Moonshine Music, Lawrence delivered his fourth collection, Trilogy, Part One: Empire, in 2000; United States of Trance on Moonshine followed shortly after. His first production album, All or Nothing, appeared in 2004, followed later in the year by Un-Hooked: The Hook Sessions. He was just as active during the decade's latter half, with numerous 12" releases (often in collaboration with the likes of Nicholas Bennison, John 00 Fleming, and Dave Audé) and a handful of mix albums, highlighted by 2007's Gatecrasher: Live in Moscow. During the 2010s, Lawrence's focus shifted increasingly toward his primarily digital download-only Pharmacy label, home to additional productions and collaborative output, as was as releases from several contemporaries. He also released a mix album for Moist Music, Rush Hour, named after his long-running syndicated radio show. A sequel, Rush Hour 2013, was released on Pharmacy. ~ John Bush, Rovi
