Nicholas Murray, also known as “murr,” is a Toronto-based composer, producer, and sound artist. Born in Barbados, he has made significant contributions to the Canadian music scene, particularly in electronic and experimental genres. Murray is a founding member of the band LAL, alongside vocalist Rosina Kazi. LAL is recognized for blending influences from hip hop, punk, electronic, and experimental music, and for their commitment to social justice and community engagement. In addition to his work with LAL, Murray has an extensive portfolio in theatre and dance. He has composed and produced music for various performances, including “The Magic Of Assembly” by Toronto Dance Theatre in 2023. Murray is also known for his involvement in community initiatives. He co-founded Unit 2, a community center and performance venue in Toronto that provides a space for marginalized artists and communities to create and connect. Through his diverse projects, Nicholas Murray continues to influence Toronto’s music and arts landscape, promoting inclusivity and innovation.
