Biography

Oskar Schönning is associated with a filmic and romantic take on modern Scandinavian jazz.
The name refers both to a band and a person. Starting out as a trio in the northern Swedish town Östersund in 2002, Anders Kronlund played the dobro, Emil Strandberg played the trumpet, and Oskar Schönning played the doublebass. On the debut album 2004 Jonas Östholm had joined on piano along with Nils Berg on clarinets and Sebastian Voegler on the drums.
The later three formed a new core in the orchestra, recording albums such as Happy Jazz, Please, Puerto, Belgrade Tapes and the Violin. On the album Vykort, Schönning continued an earlier collaboration with Swedish writer and singer Annika Norlin and with artist Anja Bigrell. The album also featured Schönning (the person) in a more multi-instrumental role, playing the guitar along with other instruments and samples. This lead to the ongoing project Music for Others, where Oskar plays and records the music by himself and then invite other people for remixes, liveperformances, films etcetera.
The latest release is Jag Vet Inte with Annika Norlin - a part of the full length album ”Bad Move” with planned release in october 2022.
