She's Guilty

Biography

Jon Brooks writes songs to calm those who've looked into and seen what's in their hearts; he also writes songs to terrify those who have not. A moralist who promises us nothing, his music offers safe haven from the healers of life’s gift of sadness. His songs smile on those living on the outskirts of approval and he sings as if he’s stepping out on nothing to land on something. His music is all to impatiently misunderstood as ‘dark’ - these are lies. Brooks’ song is the light that shines brightest because it shines in the places wherein it’s needed most: the darkness. Do not be afraid! There is hope for this world: but there is hope only for those willing to see both sides of the human beasts’ heart: the light and the dark. In 2010 Jon became the fourth Canadian since 1975 to win the prestigious Kerrville (TX) New Folk Award. Founder of the Kerrville Folk Festival, the late Rod Kennedy said of Jon: “(Brooks) speaks and sings words that need to be spoken and sung and he does it beautifully, perfectly, and with absolute finesse.” He owns the dubious record of most nominations for 'Songwriter of the Year’ at The Canadian Folk Music Awards (2007, 2009, 2012, and 2015). He'll win next year.
