From a young age, hip-hop artist Keat has always loved the power words have to heal and transform; and he has used his words to write lyrics that have inspired listeners (he was 17 years old when he released his first mixtape “The Higher Road”). However, in 2017, his voice was silenced when tragedy struck as his beloved older brother and best friend died suddenly at the age of 27. This rocked Keat to his very core; and, as a man of strong faith, he found himself angry at God, and lost. Writing and performing music was the last thing on his mind, as he struggled to put the pieces back together. However, he found his voice again in 2020 and has since been fully committed to creating impactful music at the highest level and growing a fanbase through both digital marketing as well as in-person grassroots efforts. Reminded once again about the powerful impact music can have to heal, Keat felt it was time to go beyond mixtapes, singles, and social media videos. Last month, Keat released his debut EP, “The Realization.” The project intimately walks the listener through Keat’s fears, struggles, and vulnerabilities, while simultaneously capturing how his faith and intrinsic motivations help him grow and evolve. Although the primary single from the EP is the 3rd song, “Got It All,” Keat intended the EP to be played from start to finish so listeners can grasp the full message and catch the small details intertwined throughout.
