Reece began DJing in the late 1980s. In 1992, Jack Smooth offered Reece a trainee studio engineer job, and Reece went on to engineer for Smooth on many of the early Basement Records releases. Reece first tried house (recording with his brother, Oscar, under the name of XE-DUS), but graduated to drum and bass. Though his preferred genres were acid house and Detroit techno, Reece become known for jungle music in the early -1990’s His initial releases appeared under the name of The Reece Project, Liquid Wax, Basement Records and Creative Wax labels. Reece made his name with MetalHeadz Records with single releases "Basic Principles" (1994) and "Pulp Fiction" (1995). His pioneering two-step break and Reese Bassline used in "Pulp Fiction" became Drum and Bass Standards, showcasing his minimalist style, a sound partly inspired by his fix on acid house. In fact, the case might be made that Reece's music isn't jungle at all, since most of his beats are quite steady. No matter if he's a junglist, technojunglist, Reece cemented his reputation quite well with additional recordings as Jazz Juice for Precious Materials, Lunar Funk for Mo'Wax. In early 1996, he landed a major label deal with Island Records who signed him and his debut album So Far was released in September 1996 with 2 Singles previously released making introductory Drum&Bass chart success. He is now back working on new drum and bass music with his brother Stewart Reece under the Metalheadz label.
