Kalpataru Tree is the musical project of Cascadian resident Curtis Humphrey. Being moved profoundly into ecstatic states precipitated by experimental psychedelic downtempo of the early 2000’s, he set off on a quest to understand and replicate the phenomenon of the intuitive communication of a language beyond words. First though the study of the relationship between music and altered states of consciousness at Chico State university - and then diving deeper into the psychoacoustics of sound and music at the Globe institute in San Francisco, he used this educational and experiential foundation to set off on the quest of music production. Moving into an off-grid yurt in the forests of southern Oregon as his Sonic laboratory, he began to refine his style and soon released the underground psy-dub classic “Scattered Fragments of the Eternal Dream”. Sometimes ambient, dub, downtempo, world, jazz, and experimentally beyond genre - with a heavy emphasis on organic elements such as guitar, bass guitar and the human voice, he proceeded to release a total of 6 albums to date. Having had a plethora of experiences traveling and touring the festival environs, he now finds himself interested in curating a more grounded, refined, expression of sonic sentiment in conjunction with accomplished musicians and percussionists, poets and performers, offered as live-looping experiences where the dissolution of art and audience is the primary aim.
