Lindpaintner: Die sicilianische Vesper...

Lindpaintner: Die sicilianische Vesper...

Biography

He was hailed by Mendelssohn as the greatest conductor in Germany and even Berlioz admitted to Lindpainter's excellence and sensitiviy by complimenting his orchestra. (Berlioz rarely left such statements unqualified this laudation included.) As a violin student of Plodterl (at the ripe age of seven) Lindpainter earned the privilege of studying with Winter in Munich by the age of fifteen. Six years later he was already directing the Isartor Theatre in Munich. He later held the position of the Kapellmeister of the royal orchestra in Stuttgart until his death. Lindpainter rarely conducted anywhere else but on a few occassions during the 1850s did conduct in London for the New Philharminc Society. Two of his more familiar compositions were the operas "Der Vampyr" and "Der Bergkonig." Other compositional genres that Lindpainter employed were ballets, melodramas, oratorios and several orchestral settings. Lindpainter was probably influenced by Weber and may himself have had an influence upon Wagner. ~ Keith Johnson, Rovi
