Biography

Jorge García Martín was born in Salamanca (Spain) and studied organ with Lorenzo Ghielmi, Wolfgang Zerer, Andrea Marcon and Jörg-Andreas Bötticher, and historical improvisation with Rudolf Lutz, Markus Schwenkreis, Emmanuel Le Divellec and Nicola Cumer in the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis. Winner of several prizes in national and international organ and piano competitions, he develops an intense concert activity throughout Europe and Japan. He is considered one of the diffuser and recuperator of the knowledge and practice of Iberian improvisation. For this reason, he is invited to courses and conferences of international relevance: Festival de musique improvisée de Lausanne, Studientage Improvisation (Basel), Julián de la Orden Academy (Cuenca), Ethnomusicology Society, Spanish Musicology Society, National Heritage, etc. He is currently doing his doctoral thesis at the University of Valladolid on Spanish historical improvisation. He has been assistant professor of improvisation at the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis and professor of historical improvisation and basso continuo at the Katarina Gurska High School. He is currently a professor of basso continuo and historical improvisation at the Superior Conservatory of Castilla y León. He is the founder and director of the International Organ Academy in Castile, director of the Tordesillas Organ Festival and the four-hand organ festival in the Rueda region.
