“The Awakenings Ensemble”, is the vehicle for drummer, composer and producer - Michael Pignéguy to venture outside of his original training in the genre of jazz, combining with that, his extended interest in Latin, Arabic & World Music genres. This process actually begun early new millennium (2004) with the album release by the act called “Salamander” - titled “Adapt”. This critically acclaimed album was shaped around the talents of Pete Jeavons & Nathan Winterflood, with Michael, fusing drum & bass, hip hop, nu-jazz, jazz & world music genres. The Awakenings Ensemble was then originated in 2011, several years after Michael had based himself in Qatar for over a decade (2006-2018), absorbing the global rhythms & cultural influences of his new surroundings. Releases and live performances have included contributions by Dominick Farinacci, Yassine Ayari, Tom O’Halloran, Baian Reda, Simon Jeans, Oleg Polyanskiy, Paul Tanner, James Beard, Noura Sadaka, Carl Mackey, Hassan Moataz, Chris Coull, Jeremy Greig, Cat Hanson, Pete Jeavons, Melody A.K.A.
