Biography

Shaquille Skunga Kong is an internationally experienced producer and engineer, from Rose Hall, St Elizabeth Jamaica. He is the son of legendary reggae singer I Kong, and the grand nephew of foundation reggae producer Leslie Kong, who started the careers of Jimmy Cliff and Bob Marley. Born in 1994, Skunga absorbed the reggae fundamentals of his forebears, while distilling these into a modern sound that appeals to contemporary audiences. His music pulsates with original reggae vibrations, marrying elements of the past with the forward thinking promise of the future. Skunga's main influences are the reggae music he grew up with, from rocksteady to rockers, one drop to steppers. He has a special interest in the “rub-a-dub” era of the early 1980s, typified by engineer Scientist and the Roots Radics band. Based in his Tabernacle studio in Rose Hall, Skunga has been releasing music since 2017. He began with the tune Twisted featuring Swiss Singjay Cookie The Herbalist. He followed this up the same year with Roots Rocking, ft. Natty Knox and Phenom, a co-production with globally successful reggae band Raging Fyah. Skunga is available for production assignments and musical collaborations worldwide.
