MALLWALKERS formed as an extension of the previous projects of founding member & co-vocalist Daniel Carosa. The group was initially conceived as a party punk collective, inspired equally by exuberant new wave bands such as the B-52’s and DEVO, and sprawling soul/funk ensembles such as FUNKADELIC and THE STONE CITY BAND. Through these inspirations, the band sought to break through the somewhat rigid musical structures of the otherwise inspiring Buffalo DIY punk rock scene by incorporating horns, multiple vocalists, funky instrumentation, and sardonic lyrics. A founding principle of MALLWALKERS was to play any show or party of which it was asked, and further, whichever members could play, would play. The initial lineup recorded a demo cassette released on Drug Party Tapes, as well as split 7” EP with Buffalo garage punks WHITE WHALE. In the run-up to their first full length record, the MALLWALKERS collective expanded to upwards of eleven members, evolving the traditional punk rock drums-bass-guitar structure to include multiple vocalists, multiple drummers and percussionists, and a four-to-five piece horn section. MALLWALKERS released their first LP, Shake the Rust Off, on Peterwalkee Records in 2013, and supported the release with a tour the East Coast and Mid-Western United States. The band released the follow up Dial 'M' For Mallwalkers in 2016 and after many delays it's 3rd and final LP "Do Something Drastic" is due in 2021 on the Radical Empathy imprint.
