I’m a different kind of artist. I tend not to explore the depths of my pain and suffering, that isn’t a place I want to live - and certainly not a place where I would encourage others to luxuriate. Each act of my artistry has an explanation and a reason, and though the over-arching vibe is fun, that doesn’t mean it’s not serious. The songs I released from 2018-2021 were a rebellion - all in service of my younger self. It was all of the things I was told I “shouldn’t” or “can’t” do - but these were all of the things that I wanted to be when I was a child. With the success of songs like “Girly”, “Hokie Pokie”, and “High Heels” that child was vindicated. In 2022 and 2023 I envisioned myself as a more commercial artist. An artist “everyone” could love. Even singing as a heterosexual on “Somebody’s Daughter” - which I actually wrote about my own floozy behavior. It was cool, but I didn’t find myself wanting to stay there. In 2024 I envisioned myself as the artist my parents probably would’ve liked me to be - inspired by songs they picked for me in my early talent show days, and my years in the theatre. I am beyond proud of the musicianship demonstrated on “Greatest Hits: Deluxe Edition”, and that alone has permitted me the freedom to move on. Now? I’m combining everything that I enjoyed about each process, to give you the current version of “ME” - with no intention other than to entertain and explore.
