Chris Read is a London based DJ, producer and lifelong collector of hip hop, funk, soul, boogie, jazz and related beats. A number of high profile residencies including a 2 year spell as mix DJ on BBC 1Xtra launched a DJ career that has seen Chris produce mixtapes for a variety of well known labels, brands and outlets including Adidas Originals, Mr Bongo and WhoSampled, amassing over 125 Mixcloud chart #1s and over 35,000 followers on the platform. The most played mix from his popular Wax Poetics series has seen more than 1.5 million streams. Currently releasing music for BBE Records (some-time home to artists including Roy Ayers, Madlib and J Dilla), Chris’ discography includes 6 studio albums, 12 compilation albums plus an extensive catalogue of singles and remixes for a list of imprints that includes two of the three major labels, Universal and Sony. Artists who Chris has produced and remixed include Grammy Award winning vocalists Bilal and Algebra Blessett, Juno Award winner Kardinal Offishall, Mercury Award nominee Mark Rae, BBC New Music Award winners Maylight and West Coast rap icons The Pharcyde. A steady output of mixtapes, remixes and productions has afforded Chris the opportunity to DJ around the world.
