I grew up around middle Tennessee, spending the back half of seventh grade through high school in Watertown, Tennessee. I was active in every single music program my school offered. It was here where I learned to play tuba. Scared as hell of the practice room and not sure if being a classical tubist was my calling, I ended up going to Warren Wilson College where I worked on the college farm and learned how to play upright bass. Throughout college I had been collaborating with Space Heater, who deeply inspired me to lean into my own sound and develop my voice. I worked as a musician full time, playing mostly bass, drums and tuba until 2020, when I got an offer to farm in Green Lake, Wisconsin. It was over that summer when a friendship with Heikki Ruokangas started to grow. Around that same time I started playing improvised saxophone in grain bins and feeling infinite inspiration from the landscape and my work. While working in Havre, Montana, Indigo De Souza reached out to me about joining her on bass for an upcoming tour. With the harvest season drawing to a close, I accepted her offer, moved back to Asheville, and played my first show with her in February, 2023. I feel lucky, living in Asheville and having the opportunity to make music with so many amazing folks. Some of those folks include MJ Lenderman, Corey Parlamento, Jake Toedtman, The Resonant Rogues, Colin Miller, and Merce Lemon. -LG 2024
