Biography

Born in Bogotá, Colombia, in 1980, Edwin GarcÍa began his musical training at Pontificia Universidad Javeriana, where he graduated in classical guitar in 2004. Afterwards, he began self-training in early plucked strings and, in 2006, moved to Barcelona to deepen his studies in the field. In 2007 he won the “Carolina Oramas” scholarship from ICETEX [Colombian Institute of Educational Credit and Technical Studies Abroad] and in 2012 concluded a degree in early plucked strings at Escola Superior de Música de Catalunya, under the advisory of Xavier Díaz Latorre. Later, in 2015, he concluded a Master’s Degree in early music performance and musicology from Universidad Autónoma de Barcelona (UAB). He has performed with ensembles such as Les Talens Lyriques, Los Músicos de su Alteza, El Orfeo Català, Compañía Nacional de Teatro Clásico de Madrid, Orquesta del Gran Teatro del Liceu, La Dispersione, L’orquesta Simfònica del Valles, Coro de Cámara Francesc Valls of Barcelona Cathedral, Música Ficta, Las Vespres d’Anardi and Xuriach among others. He is currently focused in the historic performance of the theorbo and spanish baroque guitar, and to research on Iberian music without diastematic musical notation of the 17th and 18th centuries. He is the director and founder of the La Sonorosa ensemble, with which in 2019 he has published the album “Vida Bona” to the La Mà de Guido label, dedicated to Luis de Briceño and his metod.
