Biography

He was born in Izmir, Turkey in 1980. Initially, he pursued his studies at the State Conservatory's Department of Opera, starting at Dokuz Eylul University before continuing at Mimar Sinan University and then the Istanbul State Conservatory. Later, he earned a scholarship from Schola Cantorum Basiliensis in Switzerland, where he completed his undergraduate Opera studies. Notable achievements include winning the Performance Award at the Zurich International Theatre Festival in 2003 and the Special Jury Prize at the Siemens Opera Contest in 2007. He has participated in numerous prestigious European music and theatre festivals. The singer has been keeping the entertaining show 'Kafası Karışık Kontrtenor (Confused Countertenor)' alive since its inception in 2010. This show features his original songs, covers from diverse genres, and personal anecdotes. His debut music album, 'Kafası Karışık Kontrtenor,' was released in 2015, followed by a successful duet with Turkish Pop Queen Sezen Aksu titled 'Gecmise Susmasini Soyle' in 2018. Nuri Harun Ates holds a prominent position within Turkey's LGBTQ community as one of the few openly gay singers in the country. His music video 'Ay,' featuring the LGBTQ community, was released in 2019 with a Gay Pride theme and garnered widespread praise and recognition. He lives in Istanbul and continues to perform in both Turkey and Europe.
