The Afro-Portuguese singer Marta Dias started out collaborating with hip-hop outfit Ithaka and rapper General D before moving on to record her first solo album, Y.U.É. In 1998, Marta recorded and began singing a different kind of fado with António Chainho, a partnership that would last until 2005 and resulted in a live CD. Meanwhile, she released Aqui, her second solo album. Her third CD, Quantas Tribos, is devoted to the poets of her father’s home country, San Tomé and Principe. Bandida celebrates her 20-year musical partnership with friend pianist Carlos Barreto Xavier. Um Beijo Para Amanhã dates from 2022 and was written during the pandemic. A skilled lyricist, Marta writes her own lyrics and has also composed the melodies for her last two records.
