Semi Precious is the alias of Southeast London based Guy Baron, whose music creates an intricate sonic landscape in the world of experimental pop music. In his new album Post-Euphoria (2021), the singer-producer presents a collection of ethereal pop songs and fragmented, ambient compositions that portray retrospection of bygone, blissful experiences and explore how they may be recollected at a distance. Semi Precious’ previous, concept album Ultimate Lounge (2016) saw the producer experimenting with fragmented library samples culled from often overlooked genres like chill-out and easy listening to create an unsettling yet deeply alluring utopia. Sophomore EP When We Talk (2015) presented off-kilter intimacy with co-production from electronic music pioneer Matthew Herbert, channeling 'celestial pop suspended and spinning in a dark and lonely bedroom' (i-D). Debut Semi Precious EP (2014) showcased Baron's distinctive approach to music sampling and songwriting, with a collection of collage-like, miniature tracks dubbed ‘a six track EP of subtly dislocating beauty’ (The Guardian).
