Stile Nu is an experimental baroque orchestra. We are looking for a new kind of classical music and a new kind of concert. The sheer unknowability of the deep musical past draws us to it for this purpose. It offers new possibilities. And it demands reflection on how we’re making music and why. We mine its darkest corners and deepest niches to produce new insights about the most invisible histories and generate music that is utterly unlike anything else. Stile Nu is the product of an international collective of performers, composers and artistic researchers associated with ensembles including the Lyric Opera Orchestra, the Toronto Symphony Orchestra, ACRONYM Ensemble, Haymarket Opera, Ugly Pug and The Royal Wind Music as well as universities and research centers including Leiden University, the Orpheus Institute, Northwestern University and Indiana University.
