Hailing from Louisville, KY, Gregory James is a multi-instrumentalist with decades of musical exploration under his belt. Best known for his work with Midwest Indie Rock outfit Annapurna, which he still currently fronts, he found that a momentary divergence was the catalyst for conveying ideas he hadn’t previously. Coming from a background in the heavier realm, he decided it was time to lighten up and access a different emotional standard with which to fuel his creative efforts. With experience in multiple different applications across genres, he brings a diversity of understanding to his writing while maintaining a cheeky wit about it. For his latest release, “Blanket Statement”, Greg is leaning in a different direction. Fully owning up to his sheer and utter love for Thundercat, Vulfpeck, Silk Sonic, and Durand Jones, he’s fashioned a Neo-pop tune to pay his respects to some of his favorite current artists. With its elements of funk and soul woven throughout, he wears his influences on his sleeve. The entirety of his work is performed, produced, mixed, and mastered in house, and as he sharpens his engineering chops, he has found an adjacent love for exploring new territory sonically.
