Biography

Tal Arbel is a viola da gamba artist, focusing on performing solo & chamber repertoire from the Middle ages (on vielle), the Renaissance and the Baroque, as well as promoting new music for the viol. Her performance career started at an early age as a recorder player, and having discovered the viola da gamba she studied with Myrna Herzog and Nima Ben David, before obtaining a Master degree from the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis in Switzerland, where she studied with Paolo Pandolfo. Her solo CD Gambit is a celebration of Tal’s unique style, sound and interpretation with repertoire from various periods, including some of her own compositions, as well as a piece dedicated to her by Israeli composer Daniel Akiva. Tal collaborates regularly with historical performance ensembles in Israel and in Europe. In 2019 she founded Kinnaru Ensemble, launching their special program My Beloved Dulcinea - Spanish music inspired by the story of Don Quixote. Tal teaches viola da gamba and chamber music at the Israeli Conservatory of Music, she gives concert-lectures on early music and conducts workshops and masterclasses. In addition, Tal is a certified life coach, working with artists on different aspects of professional routines, time management and coping with ADHD.
