Biography

Committed to a spirit of sonic adventure, Al Swainger has been focused on creating collaborations with Pointless Beauty since 2014. The lineup for new album Hearts Full of Grace features Ant Law, Gary Alesbrook, George Cooper and Jon Clark based in Bristol, UK. While every artist is a product of their listening life, few so actively push to transform those influences into something so vibrantly non-conformist. Comparisons with the world music grooves of Weather Report, sonic sophistication of Radiohead or eclectic voyages of Miles Davis might spring most easily to the minds of the casual listener. The rewards for accepting an implicit invitation to patiently reflect will reveal a far more innovative vision though. Other sympathetic aural reflections might be found amongst the measured unfolding of Matthew Halsall, melodic dexterity of Rob Luft or sublime beauty of Snowpoet perhaps. As a multi-instrumentalist, composer and producer, Al is both eclectic and transformative. His use of FX pedals and computer manipulation provide an extensive and original tonal palette with which to sculpt his music. In a world constantly seeking to destroy our attention spans, and steal our every waking moment, Al Swainger exhibits a patient determination to gently restore our mental health and emotional independence through Pointless Beauty. One listener described their experience of the latest album ‘Hearts Full of Grace' as feeling ‘transported somewhere I didn’t realise I needed to go’.
