Si Spex built his first track in 1985. It was made in his Dads friends garage, using a Yamaha drum machine and he called it 'BREAK". He then saved up and aged 15 bought his own 4 track. A few years later whilst D.Jing at a Cornish nightspot Si met future music making partner Juliano. Si & Juliano then went on to form production unit 'The Creators' releasing a string of productions during the 1990's eventually signing to Wall of Sound records and released full length LP 'The Weight' in 2000. This album featured the cream of underground Hip-Hop talent to include Mos Def, Talib Kweli, Dilated Peoples, Concequence. Lead track Kronkite ft Phil da Agony even featured on Banksys movie 'Exit through the gift shop'. More recently Si has given life to alter ego Barry Beats in an effort to educate and entertain in equal measure via the medium of Youtube. With Barry's highly acclaimed Rhythm Roulette spoof vid showing no signs of slowing (currently almost 450k views/14k likes) Si's channel is bringing his well honed skills to a whole new audience hungry for that real authentic Hip-Hop flavour and knowledge. And finally some 20 years after the release of Si's first full length player we have a new Album sized slab of fresh beat action. 2 Sides of Barry is released on Si's new label New Bap and demonstrates two distinct skill sets. The A side is traditional in nature and made up of samples while the B side is 100% sample free all cooked up inside the computer using just VST instruments!
