Biography

One of hip-hop's grimmest examples of truly living the thug life, Flint, MI's Skanbino Mob released two hardcore and bleak albums that made a considerable regional impact before the duo was murdered in two separate incidents, only three days apart. Skanbino members Bone Skanless (born Deion J.L. Smith) and Young Kee (born Marcus Mosley) first came on the scene in 1999 with Playin' for Real on the independent label Hitman. Their second album, Playin fa Keeps, appeared on the much higher-profile Tommy Boy in 2000, but failed to lift the duo above cult status. A year later, Mosley would receive a year probation after being caught with a concealed weapon during a drug bust. In 2002, Smith would be in front of a judge on murder and weapons charges related to the 2001 death of a Flint man, but he was eventually acquitted. On July 28, 2006, Smith was gunned down in front of his mother's home. Three days later, Mosley was shot in the head and dropped off in front of his aunt's house. ~ David Jeffries, Rovi
