With his formative years split between two South African provinces, rapper Muano Raps' journey with Hip Hop is one that has evolved with time. At first, writing rhymes was a hobby that constantly occupied the backdrop of his life until he recorded his first album in high school. Muano Raps' first self-produced album was a composite of influences of underground sounds - the likes of Copywrite, Canibus and Immortal Technique. When Muano Raps started university his sound began to reflect a new consciousness. He replaced the grungy sound of his youth with a more poetic and laid back one, drawing inspiration from genres outside of Hip Hop. A lot had changed in the genre and Muano Raps took the time to observe, reflect and re-envision his artistry. At present, his sound is a reflection of that process - a fusion of his formative sound, his later sound and the current happenings in the scene. To date, Muano Raps has a few public performances under his belt but with the opportunities afforded by the digital shift, he foresees a change in performance culture and looks forward to using it to push past previous limitations.
