The Next Generation, a Belgian rootsband has more connection to The Big Easy than it looks at first sight. Rooted in the swampy grounds of Dendermonde, a jazzy village beside the meandering Schelde river in Belgium The Next Generation grew up as the sons of a generation of jazz musicians and promotors of the New Orleans sound in Belgium. The previous generation organized its own famous Honky Tonk Jazz Festival featuring artists such as Fats Domino, George Lewis, Chuck Berry, Ray Charles, Dr John, Jerry Lee Lewis, BB King and so many more… In the footsteps of their fathers Joachim, Sam and Frederik started “The Next Generation” a New Orleans inspired bluesband. In the nineties the band toured intensively through the Benelux playing clubs and festivals. They also recorded a CD in New Orleans featuring Kermit Ruffins and Corey Henri. Now 10 years later they are back with a new album mixing blues and funk with hiphop to a contemporary gumbo of music. The album “Live life like a song” became a bit symbolic for the band because shortly after releasing the album bassplayer and founding member Sam Heuvinck (37) passed away. Footnote : Joachim & Sam’s father, Bert Heuvinck, received during a US tour in 1981 with Jeggpap New Orleans Jazzband, the Honorary Citizenship of New Orleans.
