The Parlotones are a South African indie rock band from the West Rand in Johannesburg. Formed in 1998, the original line-up was songwriter Kahn Morbee on vocals and guitar, Paul Hodgson as lead guitarist, Glen Hodgson on bass guitar, keyboards, and backing vocals, and Neil Pauw on drums. Rob Davidson joined the band full-time in 2017 doing keyboard and backing vocals, as well contributing songs for the China album, and long-time collaborator and session musican Trevor Rebello joined the band in 2023. Their early sound drew inspiration from bands like The Smiths, Violent Femmes, The Cure, Radiohead, James, Muse and R.E.M. Originally rooted in Britpop and the English indie bands, their music has evolved over the years and now encompasses a diverse range of genres. Over the course of their 25-year history, The Parlotones have become one of South Africa’s all-time best-selling music artists. Their music resonates with audiences, featuring relatable themes such as love and everyday life, and complemented by engaging and memorable melodies as well as the band members unique personalities and sense of humour.
