Sprites (A Musical Prequel to 'a Midsu...

Biography

‘Sprites’ is a sung-through musical prequel to Shakespeare’s ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream’. Listen to this enchanting studio cast recording, featuring West End stars Luke McCall (Jean Valjean in 'Les Misérables'), Laura Pick (Elphaba in 'Wicked') and Lily Kerhoas (current Christine in 'Phantom'; Cosette in 'Les Misérables'), alongside singer-songwriter, Max Runham, and recording artist, Michael Thomas Freeman. With music described as 'rich and lovely' by Willy Russell ('Blood Brothers', 'Educating Rita'), this selection of songs (17 of 28) will whisk you away to a world rich with Puck’s ambitious machinations, Hobnob’s jealous rage and the magisterial feuding of Oberon and Titania. 'Sprites' tells the story of the mother of the 'Indian Boy' who befriends Titania in 'A Midsummer Night's Dream'. Spurned by an austere father, pregnant Ananta flees to the woods where the sprites interweave their sagas with her dreams and nightmares. Fairy tricks may flourish, while goblin egos get bruised, but can Ananta find solace in her imagination – in this, her mystical swansong? Josh Norman previously won the prestigious Fringe First Award for his play, 'The Land of Hum', at the Edinburgh Festival; now enjoy the alluring melodies of 'Sprites', his debut musical (music and lyrics), sound-engineered by Max Dobson Browne and Sam Featherstone ('SIX') .
